SOCOM Confrontation..worth it?

By Kkwhizz · Apr 7, 2009 · 0 comments

This must be the biggest installation yet on the PS3, i’m sure after initial installation, plus game updates it’s closing in on 4-5GB. All this and it’s not even a game you can play on your own and work your way through a campaign! Socom Confrontation, is however, an excellent game. Ok ok so it’s purely online, which really sucks when the servers are down or the PS network is having issues (as they have recently) Once you’re in and playing it’s excellent. Huge gorgeous maps, incredible sound effects, numerous loadouts for your soldier, and the Comms system works really well. It’s not an all action all guns blazing experience like COD, it’s more tactical, conserve your ammo, make sure your loadout suits the level, work with your team, take up good tactical positions etc. I’d recommend this game to any fan of shooters, just be prepared to sit and wait a few hours for installation.

Rockband 2..ssoo much better

Having recently picked up the new Guitar Hero World Tour and Rockband2, I was shocked how dull and boring Guitar Hero is as a 1 player game. Ok basically they are very similar games, strum your way through numerous old and new rock tracks, but Rockband2 does it so much better! Rockband 2 offers you gigs all over the world, you need to perform well in every track to earn stars, fans and money, all of which go towards your game progression. Stars unlock gigs, which in turn, unlock opportunites to play for buses, planes, staff members for your band. While in GH you simply play each song set, then move on to the next list in a dull sequence of posters. I completed GH in a week or so, been playing RB2 for nearly a month and still nowhere near completing it, and still enjoying every gig. Even the online function works a lot better and is a lot more fun than the GH online features.
Basically…GH is just boring…Rockband 2 ROCKS!!

PES2009…Worth it?

So Pro Evolution Soccer has arrived…and..well is it really that much different from 2008? It’s pretty much more of the same, and after spending many many many years playing the Pro evolution series, I just don’t see this one really offering anything different from 2008. I admit I don’t indulge in the master league etc, I’m strictly a multiplayer fan when on Pro Evo, and well, the game just doesn’t offer me enough this year to warrant my money. My friends and I all bought a copy, I’ve played it at friends house a couple of times, it’s not even gone in my machine yet. I still can’t believe I’m saying this..but…sorry Pro Evo, FIFA09 takes the title this year.

Could you kindly…read this

I bought bioshock last week. I am really impressed, it’s not quite what I expected but to be honest I’m not that sure what I was expecting. The graphics are great and it’s pretty scary. When I first saw a little sister I was really creeped out. The tension really builds with the dark lighting, creepy 50’s music and corpses everywhere. I really started to panic the first time the lights went out and you could hear the shrill voice of a splicer nearby.

However while I was playing I found it difficult to listen to what Atlas, Ryan or any of the diaries were saying because I was too busy checking dark corners for  goodies or spinning around trying to find where the next splicer was gonna come from. I don’t want to spoil the story but there is a pretty cool twist, the likes of which I can’t remember in a computer game.

I started on hard (not because I think I’m good but because the demo seemed pretty easy on that setting) which was a bad idea the first time I tried to kill a big daddy. Still not sure what is the best way, I do like stunning with shock then firing an explosive crossbow bolt. I’m sure there are better ways, please feel free to share them in the comments section.

Just like Spain, has FIFA finally come good?

I remember when I first played FIFA International Soccer on the Sega Megadrive. It blew my mind, the graphics were incredible, the player animation was fantastic, it was a revolution. I purchased the following 2-3 seasons of FIFA, the I discovered Pro Evolution Soccer and never looked back… till now! FIFA09 seems to have it all. Amazing player animation, incredible sound, great selection of fully licensed teams, which can be updated every week via the internet, and I’m not just talking about the players moving teams, the actual form of players is also updated. Plus, the online play is excellent, unlike Pro Evo, which I must say is possibly the worst I’ve ever seen. FIFA09 also gives you access to football news from around the globe, headlines, results, top scorers, tables, even podcasts. This is more than a game its a multimedia experience.

However, as good and as fun as FIFA09 is I’m still not convinced it’s going to out do Pro Evo2009. I found it way to easy to score beautiful headers nestling in the top and bottom corners far too often. Having not been overly impressed with either demo, but FIFA seemed to turn it around once the game was on the shelf. Pro Evo could well do the same. This has already been a unique year, because I have bought FIFA09 and enjoyed it, something I never thought I’d do again. Still…Pro Evo is around the corner, I’m sure I’ll buy it too, but will it be better than FIFA? Watch this space to find out.

Does anyone care that much?

With Bioshock PS3 release around the corner, there are already comparisons to it’s XBOX360 version. Graphics, sound etc etc.. I understand reviewers want to look at the difference, but to the general consumer does it matter? So what if the PS3 version doesn’t look quite as sharp as the 360 offering. I own a PS3, it’s a good game, so I’ll buy it anyway. As for the differences, I honestly don’t think many consumers will notice the difference, plus with different televisions that people use etc etc… it would be far too difficult to tell if it’s the system or just the tv. I can understand games being compared regarding playability, for instance some games work better on a pc with a mouse, and I’m sure some games play better on an XBOX etc etc.. But really….who cares?

PES 09 Demo

By LFC23 · Oct 3, 2008 · 0 comments

I have just played the new pro evolution soccer (football!!) 09 demo, available on the Europe store. Longest hour and a half of my life waiting for it to download (its nearly 1 and a half gig).

You get a full 5min game and you can play vs or co-op but at the end of the match it plays a video about the new stuff like become a legend mode. It takes a while so I found it quicker to quit the game and load it up again. The team options are nice too. You can be Liverpool, Man Utd, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Italy or France.

Well first impression is it has been improved. The overall graphics are much better and the ball moves around more slickly than before. Players seem to have momentum and can therefore not change direction as quickly so predicting play will be much more important. The menu system looks better but is pretty similar. You still get the annoying beeps when you select things but the god awful music has been changed to songs that dont make you want to put your controller through the tv.

The change man option does not have a slider but 3 options, auto, semi-auto and unassisted. I’ve always complained about the computer giving you the wrong man so I tried the unassisted. It’s bloody difficult as you have to press the change man button (L1) everytime you make a pass to get control of the man your passing to. It makes kick offs impossible!! So I changed to semi-auto and was pleasantly suprised, the computer gave me the most sensible person everytime.

Many of the squads aren’t that upto date (Saha and Silvestre still at Man Utd, No Reira at Liverpool and Robinho still at Real) but I’m sure that will be done for the full game, if not you can do it yourself. There was no commentary so I can only hope that has improved and if online play works well then I think we will have alot of happy pro evo fans by the end of this month!

PES 2009 Coming soon

By Kkwhizz · Sep 28, 2008 · 0 comments

It’s that time of year again…FIFA starts its annual battle with Pro Evo.

The producers of Pro Evos creators openly said last year it wasn’t their best work (still a great game). This years installment of PES is meant to have all the bells and whistles you could ask for. Lets hope it does..personally..I can’t wait! Also..I’ve heard, good news for LFC fans, Liverpool has been added to the official teams within the game. You don’t have to take dodgy pictures of your shirt with the eyetoy and upload them anymore.

This is not the actual cover!! unfortunately!

Great little time filler

Another recently downloaded demo…1942: Joint Strike has turned out to be a little gem.

Ok it’s only one level which passes 10 minutes of your day, but I’d highly recommend purchasing the game from PS3 online store. It’s some simple mindless shooting fun.

Not Just for Girls..We like it too!

By Kkwhizz · Sep 28, 2008 · 0 comments

Recently we downloaded the demo version of guitar hero. Since it was a free download, you know…why not give it a go? Anyway, never really been attracted to playing this game, always seen it as one of those ‘games for girls’ like singstar etc..

However, i have to say, i’ve become a bit of an addict. I’ll be the first to admit, i’m crap, i’ve only hit 100% once on easy, but i’ll keep trying. Plus i’m using the standard control pad to rock out. I’d never cope trying to use the guitar. The demo has about 7 songs to nod your head along too. I highly recommend downloading it (US Store only it seems)

We did have a little go at the expert level…after roughly 10-15 seconds it was a case of f*** that, bloomin impossible, hats off to anyone that can play the game at that level. I’m guessing you need to actually be quite good on the guitar to get somewhere on expert.

Overall, it’s a good game, simple idea, well executed, i’d recommend it to any music lover, even to play on easy level and just enjoy some classic rock tunes.
